The 2001 Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals marked the first time an NHRA national points event was held at Bristol Dragway in more than 3 decades.

Bristol Dragway is built on the site of the original Bristol Dragway, which opened in 1965 with NHRA sanction.

The old Bristol Dragway, operating under IHRA sanction, closed after the 1997 season to make way for a $15 million overhaul.

Earth movers hauled almost one million cubic yards of "Thunder Valley" to create more pit area and better grandstand access.

Bristol Dragway features two pedestrian tunnels from grandstands to pits.
