The Southern Outlaw Tour '08 presented by TCI/Comp Cams will roar into town April 4-6 with an exciting inaugural appearance in Thunder Valley.  The Bristol race, held in conjunction with the Outlaw Racing Street Car Association, marks the debut event for the Outlaws at Bristol Dragway.

The outrageous Outlaw Pro Modified and Nitrous Pro Modified cars will highlight the inaugural event.  Outlaw 10.5, Big Dog, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0, Limited Street, Modified Street and EZ Street also are scheduled to compete.

The marquee classes compete on narrow 10.5" tires, making for a challenging pass down the strip.  These races are always exciting, as drivers must work hard to get power to the track without losing traction.

A bracket race completes the weekend action with $5,000 going to the winner of the Pro class and a $2,000 prize for the winner of the footbrake class.

The Southern Outlaw Tour is the creation of event promoter George Howard and consists of seven races during the 2008 season.  Howard wanted a grand venue to host his series' first event of the season and Thunder Valley provided him that opportunity.

"Our biggest race of the year is the race scheduled for Bristol," said Howard.  "The other races won't feature every class.  Because this is the kickoff event, and with the history at Bristol and its role in the birth of Pro Mods, we wanted to do a big deal to get it all started."

"This will be the first time the Outlaw 10.5 and Big Dogs compete at Bristol," he continued.  "We're going to have Outlaw Pro Mods with no rules other than safety requirements.  We're expecting about 500 cars for the weekend and nothing but pure excitement."

According to Howard, several well known competitors will be among those making the trip to Thunder Valley to compete in the weekend's activities.

"Seven-time World Champ Rickie Smith and Jason Scruggs, who drives the world's fastest door-slammer, will be there," said Howard.  "Every guy that is anything in the world of Outlaw racing is going to be there. It will be a weekend full of excitement for anyone that likes heads-up, Southern-style, door-slammer competition.

With long, smoky burnouts and big numbers on the scoreboards, this event will thrill any diehard race fan.

"This is probably going to be one of the most exciting events that you will see," Howard says.  "No holds barred, period."
