Street-Legal Drag Racing Hits The Strip For The First In '08 On Saturday, Mar. 22 During Winter Heat.
Bristol Dragway's action-packed Street Fights series kicks off its eighth season on Saturday, March 22 with a new racing class and a special giveaway that will send someone to Myrtle Beach to soak up the sun and sand.

One lucky visitor will win a Myrtle Beach vacation package for four that includes hotel accommodations at Barefoot Premier Resorts and Beach Cove Resort, tickets to the Carolina Opry and Dixie Stampede, and dinner at Margaritaville.

To give the four beach-bound travelers a break from rising gas prices, Bristol Dragway and Tri-Cities Regional Airport have arranged to fly the winner and guests round-trip to Myrtle Beach for their week of excitement.

Beginning with the March 22 event, and continuing at Saturday events throughout the season, the new Team RFC and Team Hurley USA King of the Strip True Street Challenge presented by Mac Tools will let street legal cars clash to determine the true King (or Queen) of Thunder Valley.

True Street competition will take place after regular Street Fights action, giving everyone an opportunity to race without losing time on the track. To compete, racers will first select one of six class indexes (9 second through 14 second). The participants will take a cruise through the surrounding area and return to Bristol Dragway. Drivers must then make three consecutive passes down the strip. The times from these three passes are averaged, with the closest to the class index winning the race.

At each of the seven scheduled True Street events, $700 in prizes will be given away and drivers will receive points through a special points system. At the end of the season, the competitor with the most points in each class index walks away with an extra $1,000 in their pocket.

Gates open at noon, with racing beginning at 1 p.m. True Street drivers must have their cars through the tech inspection line by 5 p.m. The cruise begins at 5:15 p.m., with racing slated to begin at the conclusion of Street Fights.

Spectator admission is only $5, with participant entry fees beginning at $10. Entry for those racing in the True Street Challenge is $20. For $25, True Street racers can compete in both the True Street Challenge and Street Fights.

Five Street Fights take place on Saturdays, and 14 events are currently slated for Thursday nights. Special hours at the Saturday Street Fights held during the summer will let drivers race until midnight and give them more time to fill their need for speed.
