Bracket Racers Set To Battle For Big Payday During World Footbrake Challenge
After a successful event on a new date last season, the Fourth Annual World Footbrake Challenge presented by BTE roars in to Thunder Valley July 16-18 with some of the best racers around ready to take the big money.
The World Footbrake Challenge is an 1/8-mile event that will see racers depend on their driving skills to take home the top prizes. In footbrake competition, drivers are not allowed to use electronic equipment to help them achieve a better start.
Racers can enter three different $10,000-to-win races during the weekend.
Billing itself as “The World’s Greatest Footbrake Race,” the event continues to build quite a reputation for itself. Event promoter Jared Pennington says he is excited about the following the race has developed.
“We are excited to be back,” Pennington said. “The event has changed since its original version due to the economy. We downscaled it a little, but the participation is every bit what we thought it would be and more.
“We still have customers who come for the first time each year who have wanted to come to Bristol Dragway to see it and race there. Being at Bristol has been a huge part of the success; the attraction to the facility and the area in general.”
The format remains similar to last season, with just a few minor tweaks. The changes will allow for even more racers to leave Bristol with a few extra dollars in their pockets.
“We did away with the 64-car shootout,” Pennington said. “In its place, we are going to have several 16-car shootouts after the main event to increase the number of winners we are going to have.”
“This year, we have pre-entrants from 19 different states. We look to have around 225-250 cars by the time the event gets here, which is great, because that is how this event is structured.”
Pennington also noted that racers and fans on hand this weekend should expect an announcement regarding next season’s fifth anniversary event.
