For several drivers, the 2010 season is off to a good start in the DER Bracket Racing Series at Bristol Dragway. While Saturday's event in Thunder Valley was a non-points affair, beginning the year in Winner's Circle is never a bad thing.

Vance Houston from Spruce Pine, N.C. earned the win in Super Pro when his opposition, Darrell Pack of Newport, turned on the red light by just .004. Houston left the line with a .020 reaction time, and ran a 4.895 elapsed time (4.78 dial-in) at 128.66 mph to take the victory.

Bluff City's Jason Nelson also picked up a win due to a red light in the final of the Pro Division. Nelson had a .106 R.T. and completed his run in 6.963 seconds (6.93 dial-in) at 97.71 mph. Eddie Weaver from Bristol, Va. left a little too soon and was hit with the disqualification.

Mike Hicks earned the win in the Street category over Blountville's Tim Smith. The Bristol, Va. resident used a .039 R.T. coupled with a 9.940 E.T. (9.89 dial-in) at 116.85 mph to propel himself to the win. Smith's second place run consisted of .089 R.T. and 13.661 E.T. (13.62 dial-in) at 100.68 mph.

Johnson City's Ed Cannon Jr. took home the win in the Trophy category over Bluff City's Jerod Haga. Cannon drove his 1980 Malibu through the finish in 12.053 seconds at 110.44 mph. Haga's Mustang ran faster than the dial-in, handing the win to Cannon.

Jerry Turner of Bluff City defeated Mount Carmel's Jason Haynes in the motorcycle final. Turner's .030 R.T. and 6.074 E.T. blast at 99.45 mph was good enough to seal the deal. Haynes completed his run in 6.085 seconds at 117.34 mph.

Dane Shinault earned the victory in Junior Dragster Division II with a 7.992 E.T. jaunt through Thunder Valley, while Gabe Ellison of Rogersville captured Junior Dragster Division I. Ellison had a 9.003 E.T. at 72.65 mph.
