Labbous Jr. Picks Up Big Money During K&N Spring Fling At Bristol Dragway
John Labbous, Jr. was the big winner in last weekend’s K&N Spring Fling 20’s at Bristol Dragway. Labbous overcame tough competition, including NHRA Professional drivers Jeg Coughlin and Shawn Langdon, to earn the trifecta.
Thursday’s final round pitted Labbous’ dragster against the 1969 Camaro of bracket racing legend George Rupert. With the win, Labbous picked up a $12,500 check.
Labbous, of White House, once again drove to victory, this time over a red-lighting Chad Hedgecock on Friday. Hedgecock, of Loudon, left the line too soon, handing the $20,000 win to Labbous. Labbous’ run saw him leave the line with a .010 reaction time, and make the pass in 6.645 seconds (6.65 dial-in) at 157.19 mph.
On Saturday, Jeff Rucks of Rainsville, Ala. lined up against the incredible force of Labbous. The race was over at the starting line as Rucks turned on the red light, giving Labbous another $20,000 payday. Labbous completed his run in 6.917 seconds at 120.96, after a .011 R.T.
Labbous’ luck ran out on Sunday, and Newland, N.C. racer Junior Houston earned the final $20,000-to-win race of the weekend. Houston drove to victory over Brian Folk, after both drivers ran faster than their dials. Houston used an incredible .003 R.T. against Folk’s equally impressive .008 R.T. Houston’s run was a 4.602 E.T. (4.61 dial-in) at 148.02 mph, while Folk ran a 4.665 E.T. (4.70 dial-in).
