Shortridge, Freer Claim Super Pro Victories During DER Racing Series Weekend in Thunder Valley
Super Pro competition during last weekend’s DER Bracket Racing series at Bristol Dragway was dominated by Kellie Shortridge and Lauren Freer.
Shortridge earned Saturday’s win by racing to victory over Claude Hall of Mt. Carmel. The Mooresburg resident left the line with a .019 reaction time and finished the pass in 4.876 sec. (4.85 dial-in) at 131.92 mph. Hall’s runner-up effort was a 5.187 elapsed time (5.14 dial-in) at 133.34 mph.
Freer claimed Sunday’s victory when she defeated Rogersville’s Buddy Fleenor. Freer had a stellar .008 R.T. and raced through the finish line with a 4.663 E.T. (4.65 dial-in) at 146.34 mph. Fleenor had a 5.037 E.T. (5.02 dial-in) at 140.09 mph.
Tim Griffith of Cedar Bluff, Va. drove to Saturday’s Pro division triumph over Danny Avery. Griffith used a .010 R.T. and a 7.442 (7.44 dial-in) at 86.92 mph to earn the victory. Avery had a 6.98 E.T. (6.997 dial-in) at 94.27 mph.
Richard Newman from Rogersville took the Pro category win on Sunday by defeating Junior Bailey in the final round. Newman left the line with a .042 R.T. and completed his run in 7.500 sec. (7.46 dial-in) at 87.04 mph. Bailey came up short on his 10.047 E.T. (9.98 dial-in) pass at 70.80 mph.
Darrel McGlothlin from Richlands, Va. earned the Sportsman win on Saturday over Cody Spears. McGlothlin had a .021 R.T. and ran close to the dial, a 12.133 E.T. on a 12.13 dial-in, to win.
Matthew Hicks of Abingdon, Va. took Sunday’s win as his opponent, Bristol’s John Isom ran faster than the dial. Hicks’ winning pass consisted of a .045 R.T. and a 13.271 E.T. (13.25 dial-in) at 96.02 mph.
Bill Roberts of Bluff City claimed the Trophy division win on Saturday over Chrystal Freeman of Roan Mountain. Roberts’ .026 R.T., coupled with an 18.19 E.T. (18.470 dial-in) at 65.79 mph were enough to seal his fate after Freeman left the line with a .393 R.T. Her pass was much closer to the dial with a 15.856 E.T. (15.80 dial-in) at 87.58 mph.
Sunday may have seemed like déjà vu for Freeman, but it was Roberts’ son Austin in the opposite lane this time. The younger Roberts left with a .153 R.T. and ran down the track in 15.019 sec. (14.95 dial-in) at 80.85 mph. While Freeman was quicker on the tree, she was further from her dial this time, with a 15.911 E.T. (15.71 dial-in) at 88.28 mph.
Wes Parsons of Independence, Va. earned the Motorcycle win on Saturday over Jerry Turner of Bluff City. Turner avenged the runner-up effort with a victory on Sunday over Michelle Jacobs of Dandridge.
Junior Dragster Division I went to Roan Mountain’s Garrett Freeman on Saturday, while Sunday’s final round went to Jackson Bailey.
Austin Roberts of Bluff City won Saturday’s Junior Dragster Division II action, and Corryton’s Dylan Kiser earned the win on Sunday.
Taco Bell Street Fights returns to Bristol with a Burnout Competition on Thursday, May 3, followed by another weekend of DER Racing Series action May 4-6.
