Thunder Valley shifts into high gear this week as the second event in the Fas Mart Street Fights series takes place Thursday night, April 1 and the season opener for the DER Racing Series will run Saturday, April 3.

Thursday's Street Fights is presented by Ford and will feature special Ford contests and giveaways during the event. In addition, Ford will be giving away several sets of tickets to the April 30-May 2 running of the Inaugural Blue Oval Bash at Bristol Dragway.

Also, the Street Fights Outlaws return for the second time, with J.W. Kinzer taking home the first match-up for the Outlaws. A $100 bounty has been placed on Kinzer and will increase $100 each week until he is defeated.

The Street Fights Outlaws are some of the fastest street-legal racing machines in the area. During the first Outlaws race, Kinzer's first round saw him run an 8.133 elapsed time at 182.62 mph. In the finals, he defeated Adam Adkins with an 8.208 E.T. at 161.77 mph. Adkins completed his pass in 10.756 seconds at 126.92 mph.

Justin Haynes won the Street Fights Baddest Bikes over Jon Parton. Haynes' winning run was a 9.454 second blast at 142.90 mph.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Thursday, with racing scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $5, while racer entry is only $10. 

Bracket racing returns as the DER Racing Series kicks off the 2010 season with a non-points event on Saturday. The area's best bracket racers will square off and prepare for a run at the season championship.

Chassis certification will take place for those who have scheduled an appointment. Racers also will be able to sign up to compete for the championship and will be able to purchase parking spaces for the season.

Gates open at 10 a.m. with time trials slated for noon. Eliminations will follow.
