Mopar fans were treated to great weather and even better racing during last weekend’s Mopar Thunder at Bristol Dragway.

Several racers, hailing from various hometowns, were able to snag victory during the event.

Action began with Friday evening’s Mopar vs. The World which gave makes from other manufacturers the opportunity to knock off the mighty Mopars. In the end, however, it was Joseph Hartsell from Stanfield, N.C. in his 1971 Dart claiming the win.

Hartsell raced to the win after Randy Walters of Bluff City turned on the red light in the final round. Hartsell reacted from the line with a .032 reaction time and broke through the finish line in 6.028 seconds (6.03 dial-in) at 112.05 mph.

During Mopar vs. The World, Ron Polidra from Winston-Salem, N.C. had a perfect run. He had a .000 R.T. and a 6.350 elapsed time on a 6.35 dial-in.

On Saturday, Rockwood’s Ken Patterson took the Super Pro win after Billy Varner Jr. from Stanley, N.C. started a little too soon and earned a red light. Patterson had a .010 R.T. and a 6.428 E.T. (6.43 dial-in) at 104.77 mph on his winning pass.

Randy Chesnut from Goshen, Ohio earned the Quick 8 category win over Tim Odom of Blairsville, Ga. Chesnut’s winning run consisted of a .048 R.T. and a 5.694 E.T. (5.66 dial-in) at 116.46 mph.

Steve Foley from Barboursville, Ky. drove to the win in Saturday’s Pro division final over Bluff City’s Randy Walters. Foley’s .015 R.T. and 7.597 E.T. (7.54 dial-in) at 84.29 mph were enough to snag the win. Walters, who was slow from the line with a .106 R.T., had a 6.954 E.T. (6.94 dial-in) on his run.

Bluff City’s Jason Nelson drove to the win in the Sportsman ranks as he raced to victory over Jeremy Woods of Bristol. Nelson came from the line with a .013 R.T. and made his run in 10.637 seconds (10.57 dial-in) at 124.84 mph. Woods ran faster than his dial-in (12.401 E.T on a 12.42 dial) to earn a disqualification.

Varner Jr. avenged his Saturday loss by claiming Sunday’s Super Pro category over Hartsell. Varner took a .010 R.T. and a 5.971 E.T. (5.94 dial-in) at 111.59 mph to earn the win. Travis Stinson of Blountville won the Pro division over Chester Lay from Coryton. Stinson’s winning run was a 6.474 E.T. (6.45 dial-in) at 102.66 mph. Gerald Wright from Ball Ground, Ga. claimed the Sportsman win over Ron Tefertiller. Wright’s pass consisted of a 12.766 E.T. at 104.77 mph.
