Inaugural Blue Oval Bash Set For April 30-May 2 In Thunder Valley
The Inaugural Thompson Metal Services Blue Oval Bash roars in to Thunder Valley this weekend, April 30-May 2, and brings with it a Ford fanatic’s dream. High-performance racing action, Ford’s meanest street machines and two jet funny cars, the Ford Cobra Jet and Top Secret, make this the hottest new Ford event in drag racing.
Racing begins on Friday with a test and tune session open to all manufacturers. The session includes Ford vs. The World and fans are invited to come cheer their favorite brand to victory over the invading Chevys and Mopars.
Exciting Ford-only competition continues throughout the weekend in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman. The jet funny cars will make two exhibition passes on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
One of the major highlights for competitors at the Blue Oval Bash is the Team Hurley USA True Street cruise, also on Saturday. The racers in this class take a short cruise to prove their cars truly are street-worthy, and then return to Bristol Dragway to battle for the win.
On Sunday, the Truck/SUV class will show size doesn’t matter when it comes to drag racing, as some of these trucks will blister the quarter-mile faster than their smaller counterparts.
This event also features two exciting new classes, the Ford Mod Motor class and an 8.50 Index class. Fans will want to be in the stands as these two classes will bring out some serious horsepower. The 8.50 Index runs on Saturday, while the Modular Motor class takes place on Sunday.
Any race car that pre-registers for the Modular Motor Class or the True Street Class will receive a free dyno pull at Team Hurley USA’s shop.
Classic Mustangs, Mavericks and Thunderbirds, as well as today’s favorites, will be on hand in the car show display area. Car show awards will be presented on Sunday afternoon.
Any Ford die-hards looking for special memorabilia or those hard-to-find parts also will want to check out the vendors’ midway and the swap meet and car corral.
Friday admission is $10, with Saturday and Sunday tickets at only $20. A weekend (Friday-Sunday) pass is available for $40, while a Saturday and Sunday combo pass is $35. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
