Inaugural K&N Spring Fling 20'S Bracket Race To Be Held At Bristol Dragway
Two experienced NHRA competitors have teamed up to bring a spectacular new bracket racing event to Bristol Dragway, April 22-25, 2010. The Inaugural K&N Spring Fling 20’s includes an opening day $10,000-to-win race on Thursday and is highlighted by three $20,000-to-win races on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
For drag racers looking to cash a large check, this event surely fits the bill. Five-time NHRA World Champion Peter Biondo and Kyle Seipel bring their bracket racing knowledge to Bristol and expect to make this the ultimate event for racers.
“Kyle and I are working on some unique ideas, which will combine a mix of high dollar bracket racing with a fun atmosphere and many perks to show our appreciation to the racers who attend,” said Biondo. “After racing at big money bracket races for many years, I am excited and looking forward to the opportunity of working for the racers and being on the other side of the fence."
Among the perks planned for the race will be daily product giveaways, featuring products valued at over $500, and a complimentary "Jim Harrington Memorial Racer Appreciation Barbeque” which will include a DJ, karaoke and dancing.
Legendary NHRA announcer Alan Reinhart will provide commentary, with free live audio and video streamed all four days at www.dragraceresults.com, allowing family, friends, and sponsors to watch the racing action unfold and listen live from home. There also will be live timing available online.
As an added bonus, a King of the Mountain gambler shootout will take place Saturday morning featuring a $500-to-enter, winner-take-all format with 100% payback. This exclusive event will consist of two separate races, one for door cars and one for dragsters, with the winners of each going head-to-head for the title of “The King of the Mountain.” In addition to the cash, the winner will win an all expenses paid weekend for two to Las Vegas.
The organizers gave much thought to making the race a ¼-mile or an 1/8-mile event. In the end, Biondo and Seipel decided to make the K&N Spring Fling 20's "The 1000 Foot Compromise."
"In general, racers from the north seem to prefer 1/4 mile racing and racers from the south seem to like 1/8 mile, so to split the difference and make it a 1000 foot race was a logical decision for Peter and me to make," said Seipel about the decision.
After careful consideration, Biondo and Seipel decided to have door cars run against door cars and dragsters run against dragsters for the first 3 rounds. At that point every competitor remaining is in the money rounds and combined to run for the large payouts.
Anyone interested in hotel accommodations for the race, should contact the Best Western Hotel and Conference Center in Johnson City at 423-282-2161, the official hotel of the race. Racers should mention the K&N Spring Fling 20's as rooms have already been reserved.
