Johnson Claims Super Pro Victory During DER Bracket Series Competition at Bristol Dragway
While Mother Nature claimed victory at the DER Bracket Racing Series event at Bristol Dragway on Saturday, sunny skies graced Thunder Valley for Sunday’s action and Christi Johnson took home the win in Super Pro.
Maryville’s Johnson defeated Vance Houston of Newland, N.C. in the final round, posting a .009 reaction time and a 4.862 elapsed time (4.85 dial-in) at 141.09 on the winning pass. Houston had a losing .012 R.T. and 4.847 E.T. (4.83 dial-in) at 142.31 mph.
Richard Newman of Rogersville defeated a red-lighting Tim Griffith in the final round. The Richlands, Va. native turned the red light on by just .002 sec. The foul start handed the win to Newman who had a .038 R.T. and a 7.510 E.T. (7.48 dial-in) at 89.91 mph.
Elanine Hatcher drove to the win in the Sportsman category when Jimmy Cooper of Tazewell, Va. left too soon in the final round. Hatcher left the line with a .236 R.T. and ran through the top end in 12.664 E.T. (12.67 dial-in) at 113.37 mph.
A red light start also decided the final round of Trophy division action. Adam Green came home with the win, running an 11.152 E.T. (11.05 dial-in) at 120.27 mph.
In Motorcycle, it became a battle of the Lee’s from Mohawk with Tamara coming out with the win against a red-lighting Dustin. Tamara raced through the line in 9.594 seconds (9.64 dial-in) at 62.98 mph.
Lucas McKinney from Elizabethton earned the Junior Dragster Division I victory against Roan Mountain’s Garrett Freeman. McKinney had a .063 R.T. and a 9.081 E.T. (8.98 dial-in) at 68.15 mph on his winning run.
Corryton’s Dylan Kiser defeated Joseph Beeler of Knoxville in the Junior Dragster Division II final in a double-breakout affair. Kiser had a .007 R.T. to Beeler’s .008. Kiser ran a 7.914 E.T. (7.94 dial-in) at 80.11 mph to earn the win against Beeler’s 8.303 E.T. (8.33 dial-in) at 78.44 mph.
Taco Bell Street Fights highlight the Bristol Dragway schedule with Perfect Light Night on Thursday, May 10. Gates open at 5 p.m., with racing at 6 p.m.
