Mopar Thunder Set For Sept. 2-4 At Bristol Dragway
The Twelfth Annual Mopar Thunder takes place September 2-4 in Thunder Valley and will be the ultimate showcase for Mopar muscle.
Returning to Bristol is the always-exciting Mopar vs. The World. This special event takes place on Friday night and pits some of the fastest Mopars against all comers.
Saturday racing includes a Bonus race and Slant 6 action, while Sunday features competition in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Slant 6.
A Mopar car show will fill the Dragway grounds and offer fans a chance to view some of their favorites from years ago.
A visit to the swap meet and Manufacturers’ Midway will give spectators and participants the opportunity to purchase the hard-to-find items they have been looking to buy.
Petty's Garage also will be on hand with one of the most outrageous new Dodge Challengers around, the Legacy by Petty.
Legacy by Petty is a custom Dodge Challenger built for the President of the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI). The ride took more than 11 months of design and development by Petty's Garage. Throughout the car, fans will see the story of Petty’s professional life, from his NASCAR Rookie of the Year start to his record-setting 200 race wins, and from his seven NASCAR championships to his recent work promoting lift safety.
The car, named Legacy by Petty, is a Dodge Challenger unlike any other. The car is a convertible, which isn't available in the stock version. Petty’s Garage worked with Drop-Top Customs on the fully functional convertible conversion.
Legacy by Petty’s base coat is the trademark Petty Blue color made famous by the number 43 Superbird. Airbrush artist Mickey Harris covered the vehicle with detailed images of key moments in Petty’s career, including his spectacular crash on lap 106 of the 1988 Daytona 500 and, as depicted by eagles, Petty’s Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian award.
Harris airbrushed every rendering freehand while onlookers and Petty himself watched during a recent open house at Petty’s Garage, located in the former home of Petty’s race team in Level Cross, N.C., on Nov. 11-12, 2010.
