Search Is On For New Bristol Dragway Announcer
Ever dreamed of becoming a professional racing announcer? For one lucky fan, that will become a reality as Bristol Dragway is searching for the new voice of Thunder Valley's popular Fas Mart Street Fights.
The hunt begins today, Feb. 2, for a new announcer to pump up the crowd during its 2010 Street Fights series in Thunder Valley.
Anyone interested in the position can submit an audition video to the Dragway staff for the opportunity to become the official announcer for this season.
Not only is it the job of a lifetime, the winner will get paid to do it. That's right. The winner, who must commit to the full 17-event Street Fights schedule, will receive a paycheck for working each race.
"We're looking for someone who loves drag racing and is ready for the chance to make it big," said Jeff Byrd, Bristol Dragway President and General Manager. "This contest may give someone the opportunity to launch a new career."
As the announcer, the winner will be responsible for providing the play-by-play for each Fas Mart Street Fights event from March through September. The announcer also will take part in promotions and will interact with race fans during events.
Contestants can make their submissions through February 28. Videos should be approximately three minutes in length and should be free of profanities and obscenities. The video should explain why the candidate wants to be the next Street Fights announcer. Applicants also must read a short script found on the Bristol Dragway website to give an example of their ability to excite the crowd.
Knowledge of drag racing is a plus, but is not a necessity for anyone willing to learn the sport.
Online voting will take place March 1-14 for all submitted entries. The votes will be tallied and Dragway staff will select four finalists. At the March 27 Street Fights season opener, the four finalists will rotate announcing duties throughout the event. On April 1, the winner will be announced.
