Wyatt Sweeps Pro Division Weekend Action At DER Bracket Series
Josh Wyatt of Blountville drove his Mustang to a sweep of this weekend’s action in the DER Bracket Series Pro Division at Bristol Dragway last weekend.
On Saturday, Wyatt defeated Kingsport’s Van Greer in the final Round. Wyatt reacted off the line with a .011 light and ran through the line in 7.108 sec. (7.08 dial-in) at 95.86 mph. Sunday’s action paired Wyatt against Richard Newman of Rogersville, also in a Mustang. Wyatt had a .022 reaction time and ran close to the dial, a 7.101 elapsed time on a 7.10 dial-in, at 96.11 mph.
Ryan Arnold of Gray took home Saturday’s Super Pro win in a close contest with Blountville’s Barry Brown. Arnold’s .041 R.T. was a shade better than Brown’s .042 light. At the top end, Arnold went through in 6.143 sec. (6.14 dial-in) at 114.05 mph, while Brown followed through with a 4.880 E.T. (4.87 dial-in) at 139.72 mph.
Trevor Denton of Bristol, Va. drove his dragster to the Super Pro win on Sunday over a red-lighting Bill Griffin. Griffin, from Jonesborough, went red by just .006 sec., but it was enough to forfeit the win. Denton had a .020 R.T. and cruised through the line with a 5.066 pass (4.88 dial-in) at 115.49 mph.
Bristol’s John Nelson took Saturday’s Sportsman win after Aaron Roberts of Bluff City went red in the final round. Nelson’s final run had a .069 R.T. and a 12.523 E.T. (11.32 dial-in) at 74.18 mph. Cody Spears of Rogersville earned Sunday’s Sportsman win over Cory Smith from Dandridge. Spears’ winning pass was a 13.597 E.T. (13.58 dial-in) at 95.68 mph. Spears reacted with a .052 light.
Chester Lay of Corryton won Saturday’s Trophy class over Bluff City’s Bill Roberts in a double break-out. Lay came off the line with a .058 R.T. and drove through the finish line in 16.695 sec. (16.74 dial-in), while Roberts left with a .059 R.T. and had a 15.211 E.T. (15.28 dial-in). Roberts made it to the final round again on Sunday, but turned on the red-light, handing the win to Chrystal Freeman. The Roan Mountain native drove her Ford Fusion to win after a .031 R.T. and a 16.053 E.T. (15.92 dial-in) at 87.49 mph.
Saturday’s Motorcycle final featured a double red light, with Jason Haynes from Mt. Carmel earning the win after Phillip Carpenter went red first. Haynes’ winning run consisted of a 5.943 E.T. (5.90 dial-in) at 116.86 mph. Sunday’s last round went to Bristol’s Ben Knight after Jerry Turner from Bluff City turned on the red light. Knight’s winning pass had a .052 R.T. and a 6.422 E.T. (6.34 dial-in) at 114.17 mph.
Junior Dragster Division I went to Elizabethton’s Lucas McKinney on Saturday, while Sunday’s final went to Shannon Nuttall from Rutledge. Corryton’s Devin Kiser was runner-up both afternoons.
Saturday’s win in Junior Dragster Division II went to Elizabethton’s Jesse Edens after Austin Roberts of Bluff City went red. Ben Denton from Bristol, Va. defeated Katie Street of Cedar Bluff, Va. in Sunday’s final round.
Bristol’s Fas Mart Street Fights continue Thursday night with the always-popular Burnout Competition. The car with the biggest burnout will earn $200 cash. Spectator admission is $5, while anyone with a street-legal car can challenge Thunder Valley for only $10.
Gates open at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening, with racing set for 6 p.m.
