Season's First Power Hour Headlines May 23 Return of Street Fights
Over 140 racers and 1,000 fans braved the elements for Thursday night's Street Fights presented by ZRock 99.3. Following a brief rain delay, racers fired their engines and faced Thunder Valley's legendary quarter-mile.
On hiatus next week for Bristol Dragway's K&N Spring Fling 20's presented by Sparco, street legal vehicles can once again challenge the track on Thursday, May 23. The event's action-packed return combines plenty of great racing with Domino's Night, Power Hour and the 125 MPH Club.
Giving anyone in attendance the chance to dance for their dinner, Domino's Night rewards the evening's most entertaining dancer with a free pizza to enjoy while they watch some of the toughest street cars around square off in Power Hour.
The first Power Hour of the 2013 season pits an eight car field in best-two-out-of-three, grudge match racing to determine the night's fastest machines. Along with bragging rights, the four winners will take home trophies declaring their dominance.
Prior to eliminations, two qualifying rounds will be held to set the ladder of eight cars. The ninth and tenth qualifiers will be placed on standby in the event any of the qualified entries are unable to make the first round. Anyone can participate in Power Hour, but racers interested in accumulating points for the year-end championship must register at the gate prior to the first qualifying match. Bristol Dragway will not go back and pick up points following a run.
Entry fee for the championship race is $50 for the year with all membership fees returning to the racers through the purchase of a Championship jacket and trophy. Any remaining money will be paid back in cash to the 2013 champion.
Also up for grabs during the May 23 Street Fights is a spot in the MPH Club, awarding racers with a special "club" decal if they complete a run at, or quicker than, the night's 125 MPH requirement.
Gates will open Thursday at 5 p.m. with racing starting at 6 p.m. Cost to participate is $10 to race, $15 for trailered cars, and $5 for spectators.
