Chris Johnson kicked off the 2013 DER Bracket Racing season with a big win in Super Pro action last weekend at Bristol Dragway.

Johnson, of Maryville, Tenn., drove to Saturday’s win over Rogersville’s Buddy Fleenor with a .007 reaction time and a 4.895 elapsed time (4.89 dial-in) at 136.25 mph. Fleenor’s runner-up effort featured a .012 reaction time with a 5.003 ET (4.99 dial-in) at 139.95 mph.

In Virginia Laser Pro action, Bluff City’s Randy Walters put his 1970 Duster in winner’s circle with a .054 reaction time coupled with an 8.843 elapsed time (6.94 dial-in) at 98.06 mph, ousting runner-up Cody Spears (.056 reaction time, 8.843 ET, 73.38 mph.)

Bristol, Tennessee’s John Isom bested the Trading Post Sportsman class, piloting his ride to a .010 reaction time with a 10.236 ET (9.99 dial-in) at 137.69 mph. Runner-up Carl Widner of Elizabethton recorded a .031 reaction time with an 11.368 ET (11.39 dial-in) at 112.11 mph.

In the Motorcycle class, Elizabethton’s Josh Reece took top honors, riding his 1977 Kawasaki to an elapsed time of 6.661 (6.64 dial-in) at 108.67 mph with a .080 reaction time. Bluff City’s Jerry Turner finished second with a .091 reaction time to go along with a 5.786 ET (5.77) at 120.26 mph.

Mark Crowe (Butler, Tenn.) snagged the Corporal Clean Trophy category victory with a .105 reaction time, a 12.421 elapsed time (12.42 dial-in) and a 104.71 mph speed.  Tanya Street (Cedar Bluff, Va.) was second with a .227 reaction time paired with a 17.247 ET (17.38 dial-in) at 79.03 mph.

Joseph Denton (Bristol, Va.) captured Junior Dragster Div. I honors, recording a .057 reaction time with a 9.105 ET (9.08 dial-in) at 71.03 mph, besting runner-up Jackson Bailey (Princeton, W.Va.) who ran off an elapsed time of 8.973 (8.96 dial-in) at 72.16 mph with a .093 reaction time.

The Junior Dragster Div. II winner was Roanoke’s Taylor Dunahoo who posted a .046 reaction time with a 7.910 ET (7.90 dial-in) at 81.41 mph. Finishing second was Kingsport’s Dylan Stapleton (7.90 reaction time, 7.949 ET, 81.60 mph).

DER returns to action this weekend, April 13-14. Gates open Saturday at 10 a.m. and time trials start at noon. Gates open Sunday at 9 a.m., time trials begin at 10:30 and eliminations start directly after time trials end.
